Outreach Ethnomusicology

By Maurice - Posted on 15 September 2009

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to inform you about a new endeavour concerning research
in Ethnomusicology, brought about by former students of the University
of Limerick in Ireland. "Outreach Ethnomusicology" aims to create a
vibrant interactive public archive for Ethnomusicological research.

Our goal is to create an online Ethnomusicology community between
students and professors with a view to them sharing their fieldwork
experiences, whilst enabling these to be viewed by the public. In this
way, we will be able to provide discussion among our community and an
outlet for our research so that the wider public can experience
Ethnomusicology and also further their interests in cultures from near
and far.

We endeavour to bring together both completed and work-in-progress
fieldwork materials from students of Ethnomusicology around the world.
Our community will provide a space for us to share; papers,
interviews, fieldwork notes, music transcriptions, pictures, and
videos, and to receive feedback and support for our work. This will
enable us to improve our skills in the field, and promote the
discipline of Ethnomusicology.

Outreach Ethnomusicology will also provide a reference point both as
an online portal to websites involved in research, and as source of
bibliographies.

We hope to provide support for current and former students by way of
feeds from sites offering research funding, employment opportunities
and overall through connections made using this resource.
