Taking Notes
Submitted by Maurice on Fri, 07/03/2009 - 16:21I thought it would be nice to organize the notes I take for my dissertation. Actually, I do not want to take not any kind of notes, but notes which are sorted according to a date. I started to do this in excel, but got a annoyed. I don't see a way to deal with multiple timelines.
At this point, I have the following fields

virtualDub has
Submitted by Maurice on Fri, 05/22/2009 - 14:34I just noticed that virtualDub has vob support (mpeg2) since a couple of years now: http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/index.html
For AC3 i try http://www.free-codecs.com/AC-3_ACM_Decompressor_download.htm
Works nicely as usual with VirtualDub!

iTunes is semi-bad
Submitted by Maurice on Tue, 02/17/2009 - 09:28Due to loniless, I bought an iPod. Looks good and works. It's nice to listen to music again. Didn't do this much lately. Only problem: iTunes drives me crazy. Maybe slightly more than my other media players. Perhaps the time has come to deal with the problem?
FTP Again
Submitted by Maurice on Thu, 01/01/2009 - 15:55Really, I can't believe it. I am back to my problems with ftp again. FTP is so limited: the in-built security breach with unencrypted password is only the tip of the iceberg. Today, I realized that the limitation that you cannot transfer from one remote site to another etc. is most likely built in the protocol specification. What I don't quite get is how so many people (including me) still use it? How can web providers still offer only ftp access and nothing else. And above all, if that is the case why are there not better perl modules for ftp around.

Part IV: MPX to Museumdat
Submitted by Maurice on Mon, 12/01/2008 - 12:33My notes on converting MPX to Museumdat.
- Use mpx2mdat....xsl to transform mpx.lvl3 to museumdat
- cpMdatResources.pl seems to be the version I used in the museum. It changes the path and copies the images.
TODO:I should include the creation of thumbs and their corresponding listing in the museumdat-xml file.
For more info on museumdat see www.museumdat.org
